Izvor izbija na ravnoj površini, a ulijeva se u Tihaljinu. Prema predaji, starina vrela kreće se od 200 do 250 godina, a nastalo je uslijed potresa. Po svojoj izdašnosti spada u red jačih vrela u Europi (treće u BiH). Rijeka Trebižat trenutačno živi od vrela Klokun, Sedra, Vrioštica i Studenčice.

U 15. stoljeću obitelj Kosača vladala je područjem Huma (Hercegovina) i bila je jedna od najmoćnijih plemićkih obitelji u Kraljevini Bosni. Postoje pretpostavke da je obitelj dobila ime po selu Kosač u blizini rijeka Pive i Tare. Utjecaj i moć Kosače mogu se vidjeti za vrijeme prvog bosanskog kralja Tvrtka I.
